Where I am From - Poem
Project Type
Poem
Date
April 2023
I am from brushes
From Faber Castell and graphite
I am from the desk back in the corner
(recreated, unique
it looked like an artist’s canvas)
I am from silvery lupine,
The elephant head flower
Whose bent arms I watched
As if they were mine
I’m from journals and pens
From Ajantha and Irene
I’m from the cowardly and careless
From in-your-face and high pressures
I’m from He who saw my beauty like a paper blossom
And prayers I say to Him
I’m from Aphrodite and Hades’ Branch
Toasted rice and sweet soda
From the finger of my mentor lost to a disease
The mouth of my father shut to keep his silence
Above my closet is a hat box
Spilling my baby memorabilia
A collection of small clothes
A neglection of my memories
I am from these struggles
Climbed and fell before I grew
Flower budded from the family tree
